Welcome to The Learning Collective. I’m Megan Barnett—Founder & Lead Executive Function Coach at The Learning Collective. I began my journey in 2015 as a tutor and homeschool teacher for neurodivergent children in the small surf town of Nosara, Costa Rica. Growing up, I struggled with anxiety, perfectionism, and high sensitivity, and often felt out of place within the traditional school system. Living and teaching in Costa Rica inspired me to become the compassionate, thoughtful, and innovative educator I had needed as a child. Today, I'm the founder of The Learning Collective, where we help neurodivergent students and their families better understand executive function and build confidence and independence. Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based, polyvagal-informed, and trauma-informed, drawing from neuroscience, cognitive diversity, family psychology, and ADHD research. We specialize in supporting students with ADHD, autism, twice-exceptionality (2e), giftedness, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, depression, PDA, and high sensitivity. We don't simply coach executive function skills—we cultivate the conditions in which executive function can flourish. We recognize that executive function develops within an ecosystem and is influenced by many interconnected factors. Executive function doesn't develop in isolation. It is shaped by a student's unique strengths, interests, neurodevelopmental profile, nervous system, sensory needs, daily rhythms, sleep, nutrition, technology use, relationships, and learning environments. That's why we look beyond executive function strategies alone. We design personalized support around the whole student, honoring how they learn best while building on their natural strengths. We believe meaningful growth also happens through collaboration. We partner with parents, teachers, therapists, physicians, and other members of a student's support team to create an ecosystem where confidence, independence, and executive function can flourish. As The Learning Collective has grown, I've intentionally built a team of professionals who share this philosophy and a deep commitment to supporting neurodivergent learners. Every team member is trained in The Learning Collective's strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming, and nervous system-informed approach. While each professional brings unique expertise, we work together to provide thoughtful, individualized support. I continue to work directly with students and parents while collaborating closely with our team through regular consultation and planning to ensure each student's support remains cohesive, personalized, and aligned with The Learning Collective's philosophy.
